Mo Chara Animal Rescue

Fostering Programme

Aims of Fostering

A home environment is always preferable to having an animal confined in kennels. Many of the animals that come to us at Mo Chara Animal Rescue have had a difficult start in life, and a foster home can provide them with their first experience of love and affection.

Foster homes are less stressful for animals than a kennel environment and for this reason foster carers can provide valuable information about the animals true temperament and behaviour which may only be revealed when they are comfortable and relaxed - this allows us to match the animal to the most appropriate permanent home.

Perhaps most importantly, foster homes allow us to free up space in our kennels, which means we can offer safety and shelter to another dog or two! Many of the dogs which pass through Mo Chara Animal Rescue would have been put to sleep or maybe even died suffering without our help, so foster carers help save many lives by freeing up much needed space.

The process of becoming a foster carer consists of 3 main steps:

1. You must complete an application form. (Dog Foster Form)(Cat Foster Form) This form allows you to state the type of animal you are willing to foster (including species, size, temperament and behaviour) and gives us an insight into which of our animals might best suit your home.

2. You will receive a visit from one of our volunteers to confirm that your home is suitable for fostering. During this visit, you'll have the opportunity to discuss the fostering process in depth and to chat about any concerns or queries you may have.

3. We will contact you as soon as we have an animal in need which may suit your home environment.
